CYBER SECURITY : to be safe from CYBERCRIME

What is Cybercrime?

Cybercrime is a form of criminal activity involving the use of computers, networks and the internet. Cybercrime encompasses a wide range of activities, including computer and network intrusion, online fraud, identity theft, online harassment, and the spread of malicious software. Cybercrime can also involve activities such as the unauthorized use of someone’s personal information, the sale of stolen credit card numbers, and the sale of counterfeit goods. Cybercriminals may use a variety of tools and techniques to commit their crimes, such as exploiting software vulnerabilities, stealing passwords and other confidential information, and using social engineering techniques to gain access to systems.

What is Cyber Security?

Cyber security, also known as information technology security, refers to the security measures used to protect networks, systems, programs, and data from attack, damage, or unauthorized access. It focuses on protecting networks, systems, and programs from malicious attacks, as well as preventing unauthorized access to sensitive information. Cyber security includes a variety of measures, such as firewalls, anti-virus software, and encryption techniques, that are used to protect computers and networks from malicious attacks.

How can I be Cyber-Secure and protect myself from Cybercrime?

  1. Use strong passwords: Use a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Never use the same password for multiple accounts.
  2. Use two-factor authentication: Use two-factor authentication (2FA) when available. This provides an extra layer of security by requiring additional information to log in.
  3. Keep software up to date: Make sure to keep all software up to date, especially your operating system and web browser.
  4. Be wary of suspicious emails: Never click on links in emails or open attachments from unknown senders.
  5. Use a secure web browser: Use a secure web browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox and make sure it is always up to date.
  6. Use a secure connection: When accessing sensitive information online, use a secure connection such as a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
  7. Back up your data: Make sure to back up all important files and data in case of a security breach.
  8. Monitor your accounts: Monitor all accounts, such as bank accounts and credit cards, for suspicious activity.
