North along the N1 and the N14
Two highways take us north. The N1 runs through Midrand and Centurion into Pretoria, and the N14 comes across from the West Rand to Centurion. That means we can work this whole stretch without crossing the middle of Johannesburg.
Midrand: warehouses and campuses
Midrand, including Waterfall City and Kyalami, has grown into a corridor of logistics parks and corporate campuses. A warehouse needs Wi-Fi across its whole floor as well as at its desks, so we plan network coverage around the building. Scanners and handhelds stop being useful the moment they lose signal.
Pretoria: paperwork and procurement
Pretoria is the administrative capital, with government departments, embassies, NGOs and the companies that supply them, around Arcadia, Hatfield, Menlyn and into Centurion. Procurement often takes longer here, and compliance is more formal.
